Brittany Martin Supporting Families Through Mother.Sister.Friend. Doula Care Perinatal & Infant Care Services
Mother.Sister.Friend. Perinatal & Infant Care Services, founded by Brittany Martin, provides compassionate, evidence-based, full-spectrum doula care to families in the DMV area. Brittany’s work is rooted in advocacy, empathy, and the belief that every family deserves to feel informed, supported, and cared for during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum journey.
Brittany was inspired to start her business from her own lived experiences as a young single mother navigating pregnancy and postpartum without the support she needed. Facing a harsh village and being manipulated and misinformed by care providers made those early years incredibly difficult. When her youngest child was about a year old, she began what started as a passion project because she realized she couldn’t be the only person experiencing what she had gone through. Brittany decided to become for other families what she once needed herself—someone who listens, advocates, and provides compassionate guidance during one of life’s most vulnerable seasons.
Her journey into entrepreneurship has required incredible resilience. Brittany is a single mother of two raising her children without a traditional village. She has overcome an abusive relationship, made the difficult decision to sever ties with certain loved ones to protect herself and her children, and continues working to overcome homelessness. Through it all, her children have been her greatest source of strength and motivation. Over the years, Brittany has also built a beautiful community whose kindness and support have helped keep her hopeful and steady.
What makes Mother.Sister.Friend. unique is Brittany herself. While many birth workers may offer similar services, the way she connects with families is deeply personal and authentic. She shows up as her full self rather than taking on a sterile or clinical approach, which allows her clients to feel safe, seen, and supported throughout their pregnancy and postpartum experience.
For other women building businesses or pursuing their passions, Brittany offers simple but powerful advice: stay with it. We are all figuring things out as we go. When things get hard, allow yourself to feel it—kick, scream, and cry if you need to—but then keep going.
The Black Women Bloom community can support Brittany by sharing her work and helping spread the word about her upcoming classes designed to help parents prepare for birth and the postpartum period. Families can also purchase gift cards through her website to gift doula services to loved ones who are expecting. Through community support and connection, Brittany continues to create a space where families receive the care, guidance, and compassion they deserve. 🌸
